The emu in the sky dive-bombing a shed! When I was The emu in the sky dive-bombing a shed! When I was in the NT I spent several hours nearly every night trying to improve my #astrophotography skills photographing the starry night sky.
I’ve been home for two weeks now and I haven’t seen the stars due to heavy cloud cover most nights. Apparently autumn is a great time for photographing the Milky Way, so I am hoping for some clear skies soon.
We’ve had some beautiful nights this week. When We’ve had some beautiful nights this week. When I wake in the night and see the stars so brilliant, and the dark emu arcing up into the sky, I usually say “if I was enthusiastic I’d get out and take some night sky photos”. I got organised before I went to bed, so when I woke at 3am it was just a matter of getting in the car and driving to a high spot on the farm that was facing in the right direction.

The bush near here is alive with spring wildflower The bush near here is alive with spring wildflowers! It is impossible to walk through the bush without seeing dozens of orchids, triggerplants, everlastings, and many other colourful wildflowers.
I had a browse this evening to see what is on show, in preparation for a wildflower walk that the local CRC has organised for Saturday morning. I think we’ll be lucky if there are any spider orchids that haven’t withered, but there are still cowslips, vanilla orchids, sun orchids, enamel orchids, and maybe one or two other surprises for anyone who comes along. Goodenias, Hibbertias, Laxmannia, Droseras, Lechenaultia, bottlebrushes, various pea flowers, Melaleuca, Stackhousia, Banksias, Conostylis species, Pimelea, Hemiandra, Kennedia, Leucopogon, Groundsels, Hakea. If those names excite you you’ll love the Wildflower walk on Saturday. Meet at the carpark at the back of the CRC in Darkan at 9am.

I was lucky to get a clear photo, as most are blurry images of one hopping away - they hop on their back legs like kangaroos when fleeing.

I was surprised by how many tourists left the suns I was surprised by how many tourists left the sunset viewing area at Uluṟu as soon as the sun went down. They missed the deepening of the changing colours. And they missed the Spinifex Hopping Mice coming out to look for crumbs.
Last night we did the sunset view. The iconic Uluṟu photo. This morning the others have gone for a sunrise walk around the base of the rock. But they left me sleeping, knowing that I would hinder their progress.

Unfortunately I didn’t come out of the general anaesthetic so well, and woke up in ICU after a collapsed lung and breathing difficulties. So the one night in hospital has been extended to several, and I’m trying a CPAP machine.

All the staff at Hollywood Hospital have been amazing.
